43 migrants die and 10 others rescued off the Libyan coast

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration announced the death of 43 and the rescue of 10 illegal immigrants, after their boat sank due to bad weather near the Libyan coast.

The organization said in a statement, on Wednesday, that the migrants are of the nationalities of Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ghana and the Gambia, and the survivors were taken by the Zuwara Security Directorate.

The Commission called on the international community for an urgent and concrete investigation into the way to deal with the situation in the Mediterranean, in terms of ending the processes of returning migrants to unsafe ports, establishing safe and stable disembarkation mechanisms, and showing real solidarity from European countries with countries that receive large numbers of them.

It is worth noting that the International Organization for Migration announced in December of last year the rescue of 128 illegal immigrants, including 8 women and children, after their boat was intercepted near the Libyan coast.
