After the completion of 70% of the course of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum led by the acting UN envoy, Stephanie Williams, and the achievement of what the forum was established for, and it is close to the formation of a new presidential council and a national unity government, international voices have risen by changing it to thwart the dialogue.
Sources confirmed the existence of international pressure exerted on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, “Antonio Guterres,” on the necessity of handing over the task to the Slovak diplomat, “Jan Kubis,” to be the new head of the mission of the United Nations in Libya.
Astonishment and wondering
The head of the Justice and Construction Party, Mohamed Sawan, considered the attempt to assign a new UN envoy in Libya and end the role of “Stephanie Williams” after completing the last stage of the dialogue as something surprising and questionable.
Sawan emphasized – on his official page – that these attempts might undermine the entire settlement path and return us to the zero point, especially after the efforts of the Libyan dialogue team – as he said -.
Sawan added that reaching a settlement that would get Libya out of its crisis and ensure security and stability in the region has become an urgent necessity, pointing out that the international community must shoulder its responsibilities towards it.
Sawan renewed his support for any option or list reached by the members of the Dialogue Forum, paving the way for presidential and parliamentary elections at the end of this year.
End of Forum
For his part, member of Parliament, Issam Al-Jehani, said in a statement to Arraed, that the departure of the acting head of the UN mission, “Stephanie Williams”, means the end of the political dialogue forum.
Al-Jehani indicated that the appointment of a new UN envoy to Libya may adopt a new road map according to specific policies, and this may thwart the dialogue, confirming that the vote will start on the outputs of the advisory committee Monday, and will continue until tomorrow Tuesday.
Throwing out the project
Political analyst Ahmed Al-Rawyati said in a statement to Arraed that the removal of the acting head of the United Nations mission to Libya, Stephanie Williams, comes in order to thwart the dialogue project or to disrupt it and freeze it.
Al-Rawyati added that he advises everyone who believes in the necessity of completing the settlement project to stick with Williams remaining until it completes her project, which will not take long, according to him.
