An upcoming meeting of the “consensus committee” to complete what remains in the political settlement track to solve the crisis.

The meetings of the Consensus Committee, formed of members of the Libyan Dialogue Team, will start on Wednesday in Geneva. To develop an appropriate consensus mechanism for selecting the executive authority.

It is expected that this committee will complete the remaining steps in selecting the executive authority today, after the “75” team has reached an advanced level of consensus on the theoretical framework for the next stage.

Amidst the great internal and international interest in the tasks of this committee, the US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, stated that this committee represents an opportunity to finalize the consensus and has the mandate to reach an agreement on forming a new temporary executive authority that could pave the way for national elections later this year.

It is worth noting that the United Nations mission formed an advisory committee in early January from the members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, whose main task is to “discuss related outstanding issues ” by choosing the unified executive authority, and to make concrete and practical recommendations for the general session of the forum to be decided.
