Hanan Saleh, a researcher on Libya at Human Rights Watch, said Thursday that the criminal responsibility for the violations and mass graves that occurred in the city of Tarhuna falls not only on the leaders of the Al Kani militia, but also on the senior leaders of Haftar’s militias.
Hanan added, in a report for the organization, that the Government of National Accord must act based on what was discovered from the mass graves, and take appropriate steps to identify the bodies and bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
The organization stated that the number of abductees from the city of Tarhuna since the control of the Al Kani militia has reached 338 people, and the militia is responsible for kidnapping, detaining, torturing and killing its opponents, stealing their property and stealing their money, according to the organization.
The organization called on foreign governments and the United Nations to provide forensic experts and conduct DNA tests to assist the reconciliation government in its investigations on the graves.
