The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, welcomed the African Union’s appointment of three African envoys in support of efforts for a peaceful solution to the conflict in the Tigray region, north of Ethiopia.
“Guterres” affirmed – in a statement – Saturday, the commitment of the United Nations to support efforts aimed at ensuring peace, stability and prosperity in Ethiopia.
In the same context, the President of the African Union “Ramaphosa” said that the appointment of the envoys aims to help the Ethiopian people find a solution to the current problems in a spirit of solidarity, as he put it.
It is worth noting that armed confrontations began early this month, between the Ethiopian army and the Popular Front for the Liberation of “Tigray” in the region.
