On Sunday, the European Union and its member states welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the two parties of the Joint Military Committee in Geneva, stressing their firm support for it.
In a statement, the Union called on all international and regional players to support the Libyan efforts, to refrain from foreign intervention in Libya, and to stop violations of the arms embargo – according to what was reported by Sputnik.
The High Representative for Foreign Affairs to the European Union, Josef Borrell, said that this agreement is a crucial step, as it includes other measures, such as a comprehensive disarmament process, which are necessary for the return of security and stability in Libya.
Borrell stressed the necessity of the immediate withdrawal of all foreign fighters and mercenaries within 90 days, pointing out that Brussels encourages all Libyan parties to fully and immediately implement the ceasefire agreement.
It is worth noting that the two parties of the Joint Military Committee 5 +5 signed, on Friday, an agreement providing for a cease-fire, removing mercenaries within 90 days, opening land and air crossings, restructuring the Petroleum Facilities Guard and exchanging detainees and prisoners.
