On Sunday, press sources revealed that the drug “Captagon” was smuggled from Syria to Libya, via the Bashar al-Assad regime, from the port of Latakia to the port of Benghazi, which is under the control of Haftar’s militias.
Arabi 21 reported that – the Syrian writer and former diplomat in Libya “Ghazi Dahman”, that Bashar al-Assad’s regime is continuously sending shipments of the drug to Benghazi, because it is considered a logistical area for Assad, because it is easily smuggled inside it and because it is considered a consumption and distribution area, according to the writer.
Dahman said that the Assad regime is taking advantage of the state of chaos in Libya and the presence of warlords in it, and is taking instability as an opportunity for smuggling by air, through his aviation, which carry fighters from Syria for Haftar, and shipments by sea, indicating that there are large quantities sent from Syria to Libya after the activity of air traffic between them, at the forefront of which is “Cham Wings Airlines”.
Dahman stated that the Syrian regime is taking advantage of Russia’s movement of sending mercenaries from Syria to Libya to Haftar, to send shipments of Captagon, via the sea, via European ports, indicating that the Italian authorities have seized shipments of Captagon in their ports coming to Syria.
Dahman pointed out that Al-Assad is using Benghazi as a center for smuggling to Europe for the benefit of his regime and for Haftar’s militias in the eastern region, explaining that the quantities that are smuggled to Benghazi is estimated at 10 tons every 3 months periodically, which is estimated at less than one billion euros per shipment.
The Minister of Interior, Fathi Bashagha, had previously stated, “The Syrian regime finances drug smuggling activities through its territory to many countries, including Libya, through the ports of the eastern region.”
