French “Le Point”: Ending Wagner and the Russian expansion in Libya is one of Washington’s priorities now.

The French newspaper “Le Point” said that the new American priority in Libya is to end the presence of mercenaries of the Russian “Wagner” company and to avoid Russia establishing military bases in Libya.

The newspaper added, Tuesday, that the AFRICOM commander confirmed during his meeting with Algerian officials on September 23 that the “Wagner” should be ended alongside “Khalifa Haftar” and that Moscow is one of Haftar’s “godfathers” to the point of supporting him with a squadron of fighter jets in Al Jufra.

The newspaper revealed that Haftar, who is closest to the Egyptian opponent, is not in the hearts of the Algerian military and political decision-makers at all. But it is unlikely that Algeria will turn against the Russian ally.

The newspaper indicated that, last July, the US Defense Secretary published satellite images showing military equipment provided by “Wagner” mercenaries for the war in Sirte, and Russian transport aircraft such as “IL-76s”, combat aircraft, SA-22 anti-aircraft vehicles, and an armored mine-resistant vehicle in Sirte and Alkhadem base.

It is worth noting that the US Secretary of State “Mike Pompeo” said last week that they would confront Russia’s activities, which he described as “malicious” and destabilizing Libya.
