US State Department: We support the political process in Libya and invite the participants in the “Berlin” conference to fulfill their obligations.

The US Undersecretary of State, David Hale, confirmed the US support for the political process in Libya, sponsored by the United Nations.

Hale called on all members of the Berlin conference to fulfill their obligations by respecting the arms embargo, supporting a ceasefire, supporting a Libyan-led political agreement, and taking all necessary measures to achieve de-escalation of tension in Libya.

Hale praised the efforts of the United Nations and the Libyan efforts to advance the political process, especially the resumption of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum under the auspices of the United Nations, which aims to form a new transitional government and pave the way for national elections.

Hale called for the appointment of a special envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya as soon as possible, in order to move forward with the current political momentum, appreciating the calls of the President of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, and the Speaker of Tobruk Parliament for political dialogue, a ceasefire and the reopening of the energy sector.

It is worth noting that the Acting United Nations Representative in Libya Stephanie Williams said, last Sunday, that the international community can play an important role in supporting the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and ensuring its success by urging the Libyan parties to participate constructively and confront those who obstruct the political track by imposing sanctions on them.
