The more the UN mission’s role appears to bring the Libyan parties together at the dialogue table, and reaching some understandings and agreements, Egypt resorts to entering into the negotiation track by inviting both Haftar and Aqeela together to Cairo.
Cairo had previously announced an initiative last June, which included proposals that were not at a level that would bring the Libyan parties together, because they gathered one party and it came from Egypt, which had always been supportive of one party against another, with weapons and equipment.
Not able to do anything
Journalist and political analyst Abdullah Al-Kabeer believed that Egypt does not currently have an international weight that qualifies it to create a parallel path for dialogue sponsored by the United Nations mission.
In his statement to Arraed, Al-Kabeer said that France is trying, by announcing the convening of an international conference that brings together the neighboring countries of Libya, to resolve the crisis, and with the international status and permanent membership that France enjoys in the Security Council, the possibility of its success is limited given the growing American involvement in the Libyan issue.
Al-Kabeer said that all that Egypt is trying to reach now is to ensure the presence of representatives of its interests in the next formation, reduce Turkish influence in the Libyan West, and keep any potential danger away from its western borders.
Doesn’t seek to do so
From his point of view, the Egyptian political analyst and expert on Libyan affairs, Alaa Farouk, indicated that Egypt does not create parallel paths, and every time it confirms its support for the outcomes of the Libyan parties’ meetings in Morocco with the meetings of Parliament and the Supreme Council of the state, and in Switzerland with meetings of Libyan personalities.
In a statement to Arraed, Farouk believes that Egypt no longer supports one party against another, and it is no longer entrenched behind one party without the other, and Egypt supports the political solution, fixing the ceasefire and making the Sirte and Al Jufra demilitarized zones.
