Kazakhstan suspends three airlines for their involvement in violating the arms embargo on Libya.

On Wednesday, the government of Kazakhstan announced the suspension of operations of three Kazakh airlines, for violating the United Nations arms embargo on Libya.

The Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan confirmed, in an official statement, the withdrawal of local licenses from the three companies (“Azyair”, “Sigma Airlines” and “Genius Air”) based in the UAE and the British Virgin Islands.

The ministry indicated that the registered flights of the three companies to Libya were operated from “another country,” noting that they are not subject to its control, but are controlled by the foreign countries in where the flights are operated, according to what is internationally recognized.

The Kazakh ministry stated that it is not its responsibility to monitor the activities of these companies outside the territory of Kazakhstan.

In February, the UN Security Council sent a letter to Kazakhstan about violations committed by these companies.
