Turkey begins seismic surveys to explore in the eastern Mediterranean.

The Turkish Navy said that the Turkish ship “Oruç Rais” will conduct seismic surveys in the eastern Mediterranean during the next two weeks in order to search and exploration for hydrocarbons.

Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Donmez, confirmed in a tweet on his Twitter account that the ship had arrived in the eastern Mediterranean to resume exploration activities, adding that this was in order to ensure the independence of his country in the field of energy

The ship can conduct three-dimensional seismic operations up to 8 thousand meters deep, two-dimensional seismic operations up to a depth of 15 thousand meters and also contains a home-made submersible vehicle that is managed remotely, and has sea floor mapping systems, measurement and sampling systems.

It is worth noting that Egypt and Greece signed a few days ago an agreement to designate the “exclusive economic zone” between the two countries in response to the maritime agreement signed between Ankara and Tripoli last November.
