Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavishoglu said on Monday that the reconciliation government wants to liberate the city of Sirte, and that there are preparations for a military operation to liberate it.
Oglu stressed, in an interview with the Turkish channel “TRT”, that Haftar did not respond to the ceasefire initiatives in Libya, noting that the cease-fire that will be declared will not be in the interest of the government of reconciliation, noting that it will be only a step to save Hifter, and Turkey shares the same belief.
Oglu added, that Sirte is among the areas that Haftar should withdraw from in accordance with the Skhirat agreement, stressing the transfer of the Libyan government’s wishes to the Russian side in this regard, according to what was quoted by the Turkish Anatolia News Agency.
Oglu said, that the resolve that emerged during the break of the siege on Tripoli will appear again in the event that Haftar’s forces do not withdraw from Sirte, stressing the need for a ceasefire to be permanent and binding this time.
He explained, just as Haftar did not express a desire to sign the agreement in Moscow, and officials from the Emirati and Egyptian intelligence were there on that day, and we said then to the Russian side that these “Emirates and Egypt” would not allow him to sign, and the Russians realized that in the evening.
It is worth noting that Turkish Foreign Minister Chawishoglu said, in previous statements to the American newspaper “Politico”, that the UAE is financing Haftar, Egypt and Russia are also supporting him, which is harmful to achieving peace and stability, and the arms embargo to Libya applies only to the reconciliation government.
