Human Rights Watch calls on the Libyan authorities to protect prisoners and displaced persons from the Coruna outbreak.

Human Rights Watch called on the Libyan authorities to include plans to protect and care for detainees and internally displaced persons in shelters as a measure to prevent Corona.

The organization warned in a statement that the health care system in the country will not be able to deal with large numbers of patients in the event of an increase in the epidemic, noting that the Libyan health care system has been affected alongside other public services due to armed conflicts and political divisions.

Among the measures the authorities should implement, the organization said, is “to reduce the number of detainees by releasing unfairly or arbitrarily detainees.”

It is worth noting that on March 30, the Ministry of Justice released 466 prisoners in the capital, Tripoli, as part of the measures taken to prevent Corona pandemic.
