Two weeks after declaring a state of emergency, the war continues, and the first case of Corona is registered … What is required of the President now?

It has been nearly two weeks since the Presidential Council declared a state of emergency in the country, closed all land borders and airports , and suspended the study, in light of measures to combat the emerging Corona virus in Libya.

The difficulties faced by the citizen are on the increase in light of the continued aggression of Haftar, and the deterioration of the economic situation as a result of the closure of oil ports, which inflicted losses on the country’s economy, exceeding three and a half billion dollars.

With the war approaching the completion of its first year, and the announcement of the first infection with the emerging Corona virus – the GNA is required to take more and stronger action to combat Corona on the one hand and Haftar and his militias on the other hand, so what is required from GNA to do?

Grant powers to municipalities

In this regard, political analyst Abdullah Al-Kabeer believes that the GNA should continue to support the frontlines and give all powers to military commanders to remove the danger of rockets and missiles away from the civilian population in Tripoli.

Al-Kabeer added, in a statement to Arraed, that the government should increase awareness campaigns for citizens, and provide all kinds of support to hospitals and medical teams at the same time to face the outbreak of the Corona virus.

Al-Kabeer stressed that it is also important to grant powers to the municipalities to take all measures to address Corona, even if it was not taken by the reconciliation government. The current circumstances make it unlikely to wait for orders from the central government, as he put it.

Commitment to transparency

For his part, political writer Ali Abozaid believes that the reconciliation government is required to be transparent and clear with citizens, and to present a balanced and strict speech.

Abuzaid stated, in a statement to Arraed, that the government should solve the economic obstacles that would put all preventive measures in danger, especially the payment of salaries, and work to provide basic commodities.

Abuzaid stressed the necessity of direct coordination and providing support to the municipalities to face this pandemic.

Work as a team

As for political analyst Faraj Dardour, he believes that the reconciliation government should work as a team and stop its division, and equip some hospitals in terms of sterilization and medical staff.

Dardour stressed, in a statement to Arraed, the need to prepare places for quarantine, and to educate people about how this virus is spread, and the need for the Interior Ministry to prevent roaming, which are essential steps in light of the current situation.

Dardour praised some of the steps that had been achieved, and the role of citizens who understood the seriousness of the virus through global awareness, noting that large countries had failed to control the virus, such as Italy, America, and so on, let alone Libya, as he put it.

Will the GNA succeed in overcoming the obstacles it faces with the continued aggression of Haftar, his closure of ports and the emergence of the new Corona virus as a heavy guest in the country?
