The British newspaper “The Independent” said Hifter is unable to deliver what he promises to his supporters, and that foreign powers are looking at him with suspicion, and they see that his project cannot be achieved, and will lead to chaos and more violence.
The newspaper said in a report on Wednesday, that despite Hifter’s control of the east and his fragile control over some areas of the south, most of Libya’s population lives in the northwest – and will not accept dictatorial rule.
The newspaper quoted former US envoy to Libya, “Jonathan Wiener” as saying, “Hifter does not have sufficient forces to control Tripoli” and that he has resorted to closing oil exports to blackmail only.
The newspaper considered that even the designation of Hifter’s forces as the Arab Armed Forces is an expression of a “chauvinistic” feeling that divides the country more than uniting it, in reference to the Amazigh and Tabu component. The newspaper reported that Hifter is now an obstacle to the end of the war in Libya, noting that the conflict threatens populated areas, and will result in thousands of deaths, and increased waves of migration to Europe.
