US President Donald Trump, on Wednesday, extended sanctions on Libya for another year because of “the threat of instability in the country.”
“We risk more instability if we do not extend sanctions, especially to those who reject dialogue and block the transition to democracy in Libya,” Trump said in a speech to the US Congress.
“The interlocutors in Libya are interested in exploiting the wealth of Libya, for their personal interests, and for the continuation of the conflict in the country,” Trump said.
The UN Security Council imposed sanctions on Libya in 2011, including the freezing of assets and funds, and the ban on the import of arms.
