Salameh: Elections Are Not Possible Before The President’s Authorities Are Renewed By The Constitution

The United Nations envoy to Libya Ghassan Salameh, on Wednesday, said that presidential elections are not possible before the president’s powers are clearly defined in a constitutional text.

In a press statement, Salameh stressed the importance of a “solid constitutional base before the presidential elections” in Libya.

The UN Envoy said he was dealing with all Libyans on an equal footing, and did not differentiate between them, stressing that he had links with supporters of the former regime on a daily basis, according to him.

Salameh said that the mission of the UN mission is divided into two levels, the first is concerned with “Living improvement and gradually restoring normalcy to the Libyan citizen, as fore the second level is to communicate with the various political and armed Libyan parties to ensure the success of the forthcoming Libyan national dialogue.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya confirmed on Tuesday that it will continue to communicate directly with the parties involved in the whole forum, and will announce the time and place it will be hosted as as to what the mission determines.
