UNSMIL announces agreement to end clashes in Tripoli

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced a cease-fire agreement and an end to all hostilities in Tripoli.

According to the Mission’s Twitter account, the agreement stated the protection of civilians, the safeguarding of public and private property and the reopening of Mitiga International Airport.

The Secretary-General’s Special Representative, Ghassan Salame said that Tuesday’s meeting on the current security situation in Tripoli is not aimed at solving all the security problems of the city, but to begin to develop the appropriate framework for resolving them.

The armed clashes in Tripoli resulted in the deaths of 50 people and more than one hundred injured, according to the Government of National Accord (GNA) Ministry of Health.
