Guterres calls for compliance with the cease-fire agreement in Tripoli

UN Secretary-General, António Guterres called on all parties in Tripoli to immediately cease hostilities and comply with the UN-brokered ceasefire agreement and reconciliation committees.

In a press release issued by his spokesman, Guterres condemned the continued escalation of violence in and around Tripoli, especially the use of indiscriminate shelling, which killed and wounded civilians, including children.

Guterres reminded all parties that the indiscriminate use of force was a violation of international humanitarian law and human rights law, urging everyone to allow humanitarian access to all those in need, especially those trapped by the fighting.

The statement said UN envoy Ghassan Salama would work with all parties to reach an agreement acceptable to all.

Fighting parties in Tripoli agreed to a cease-fire on Friday that was later breached by the recurrence of clashes.
