GECOL warns of more than 12 hours power cuts if oil ports stay closed

General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) warned of power cuts for more than 12 hours in Eastern Province and an increase in the number of hours in the western region if oil ports remain closed.

GECOL explained in a statement that the continued closure of ports will result in the suspension of most generation units at the northern Benghazi station, Zuitina station and the lost of 1000 megawatts of production capacity of the two stations.

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced the imposition of force majeure on the oil ports, after the announcement of Haftar Forces to handover the ports to the parallel institution and prevent the carriers of companies affiliated with the NOC from shipping oil.
