An official at the National Oil Corporation (NOC) said on Monday the situation in Harouge reservoir is critical and catastrophic.
The official, who asked not to be named, said in a statement to ArraedLG, the NOC had lost oil reservoirs 2, 12, and 400,000 barrels of crude oil, which caused air pollution, in addition to the leakage of oil from tank 12, which led to soil pollution in the surrounding area.
The oil official warned of more losses if this situation continues, noting that the losses will be financially, economically and environmentally disastrous in the region, especially as the fire brigades are facing difficult responding during clashes.
The oil crescent area was attacked on Wednesday by Ibrahim Al-Jidran militia and resulted in the interruption of work at the ports of Ras Lanuf and Es Sidra.
