Extension of arms embargo on Libya for another year

The UN Security Council extended on Monday the arms embargo on Libya for another year after Britain submitted a draft resolution.

The Council’s decision allows Member States to inspect ships bound for or coming to Libya at sea, in order to counter the threat posed by unarmed weapons and ammunition, the Council said.

In 2016, the UN Security Council passed resolution 2292 on “strict” implementation of the arms embargo on Libya allowing inspection of ships heading to the country.
