The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said on Friday, more than 17 civilians, including two children, have been killed in the city of Derna and 22 others injured since mid-May.
On its official website, the Mission explained that the military escalation in Derna reached unprecedented levels last week, especially after the fighting had reached densely populated areas, resulting in increased civilian casualties over the past two days.
The mission added that humanitarian access to the city was severely restricted, stressing that severe shortages of food and medicines were worsening, and that some 125,000 people were suffering intermittent power and water shortages.
The Mission appealed to all parties of the conflict in the city to exercise utmost restraint and to ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to protect civilians.
Derna has been attacked two weeks ago with heavy weapons and warplanes by Haftar Forces, with the continuation of the siege imposed on the city for more than three years.
