The European Union contributed on Wednesday, € 5 million to the United Nations electoral project in Libya as part of an agreement with the United Nations to strengthen electoral capabilities and advance the democratic process.
According to statement by the EU delegation in Libya, The EU ambassador to Libya, Bettina Muscheidt signed the agreement with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) director in Libya, Sultan Hajiyev to strengthen the efforts of the UN to develop the performance of the High Nation Election Commission (HNEC) in order to carry out the tasks entrusted to it.
Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy and Switzerland have previously contributed funds to support the United Nations electoral program in Libya, entitled “Strengthening Elections for the Libyan People”.
