Members of the House of Representatives (HOR) rejected on Monday, statements by the UN special envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame, describing it as “blatant interference in the affairs of Libyans.”
In a statement obtained by ArraedLG, the members considered statements made by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) are pushing the country into a fourth transitional stage that is not based on a permanent constitution, stressing that this is unacceptable.
The 67 members, who signed the statement, said the UNSMIL went beyond its tasks limited to a political dialogue involving all parties, help Libya to establish a permanent constitution and the organization of the electoral process in the country, as stipulated in the resolution of the Security Council in 2011.
The head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Ghassan Salame has called for, on more than one occasion, holding presidential and parliamentary elections, without addressing the referendum on the Constitution.
