The members of the High Council of State (HCS) elected on Sunday, Khaled Al-Mashri as the new president of the council with 64 votes and 45 won by his rival, the former president of the Council Abdulrahman Sewehli.
The elections were held in two satges, where four candidates were nominated in the first: Khalid Al-Mashri, Abdulrahman Sewehli, Mohamed Mazab and Abdullah Jwan, after which Al-Mashri and Sewehli went on to the second phase.
The High Council of State re-elected Sewehli on the 6 April 2017, with 66 votes.
