Libyan navy rescues 202 migrants

Libyan naval spokesperson, Ayoub Qassem said on Saturday a Coast Guard patrol rescued 202 illegal immigrants aboard two rubber boats, of which there were 14 women and 2 children.

In a statement to ArraedLG, Qassem confirmed that the rescue of the migrants took place in two separate maneuvers, one in the north of Sabratha and the other north of the city of Zuwara, pointing out that the migrants have different African nationalities, five of which are Moroccan.

He added that the migrants arrived at the Tripoli naval base, where they were provided with humanitarian and medical assistance. The coast guard handed over the rescued to the illegal immigration control agency.

The Libyan navy spokesperson attributed the surge in illegal immigration across the sea to improved weather conditions.
