Libya, Sudan, Niger and Chad agreed on Wednesday to coordinate security efforts to fight organized crime in the Sahel and secure the southern border of Libya.
According to AFP news agency, the four countries said, at the meeting of foreign ministers in Niger, the southern border of Libya suffers from the absence of security and is a safe passage for “terrorist organizations” and human and fuel smugglers.
The foreign ministers also stressed on the convening of an expert-level meeting on May 3 in the Chadian capital N’Djamena to study a protocol draft on security cooperation between the four countries.
Interior ministers of Libya, Italy, Niger and Chad agreed at the end of last year on coordination to secure Libya’s southern border and set up reception centers for illegal immigrants in Niger and Chad.
