Reporters without Borders documents the death of 18 journalists in Libya

Reporters without Borders has documented the deaths of 18 journalists since 2011, and 67 journalists who have applied for asylum because of the security situation and 8 Libyan media outlets “forced” to move outside Libya.

The organization condemned on Saturday the “impunity of the perpetrators of violations against journalists in Libya,” describing the situation as pushing journalist out of the country.

Reporters without Borders said practicing journalism in Libya has become “almost impossible” because of “armed militias or political officials silencing the voices of journalists in Libya.”

Libya ranks 163rd on the World Press Freedom Rankings because of attacks on media outlets and journalists in the course of their work.
