National Human Rights in Libya condemns armed clashes in Sabha

The National Commission for Human Rights in Libya condemned the renewed armed clashes and the escalation of violence between gunmen from Awlad Sulaiman and Tabu tribes.

On Tuesday, the Committee expressed condemnation of the bombardment which left 3 dead and 12 wounded among civilians, including 3 children ages between 7 and 10, stating concern over the displacement of 120 families from the city’s neighborhoods in the midst of a “very bad” humanitarian conditions.

The Committee called on the parties of the conflict to immediately cease fire, open safe corridors and enable the Libyan Red Crescent teams to evacuate civilians stranded in areas of fighting, bearing them the legal, national, humanitarian and social responsibility for the security and safety of civilians.

The committee called on the Office of the Attorney-General and the Presidential Council (PC) to open an investigation into charges of “the participation of foreign fighters from Chad and Sudan among the Tabu fighters,” according to the statement.

The Commission reiterated its call on the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to establish comprehensive investigations into the systematic targeting of civilians and to prosecute those involved in the military escalation.

Sabha is witnessing clashes, for 10 days ago now, with heavy weapons resulting in the deaths and injuries of civilians, including children and women.
