Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry and the Foreign Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Mohamed Al-Sayala discussed the efforts of the UN special envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, to bring together the positions of the various Libyan parties and prepare for the elections.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ahmed Abuzaid said Shoukry met Al-Sayala on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Human Rights Council meetings in Geneva and stressed Egypt’s commitment to support the stability efforts in Libya in accordance with the aspirations of all the Libyan people.
Abuzaid added that Shoukry inquired about the developments in the security situation and efforts to combat terrorism in Libya, and expressed his concern about the recent unrest in some Libyan cities and the efforts of some external parties to supply groups with weapons, which is hindering regional and international work to maintain stability and advance the political process in Libya.
Egypt invited a number of officers and leaders of the Libyan army in Cairo; to unite the Libyan military institutions.
