The Political Affairs Undersecretary at the Government of National Accord (GNA) Foreign Ministry, Lutfi Al-Maghribi, discussed with the African-American Advisor, Searle Sarter ways to help protect frozen Libyan assets and support Libya’s rights of managing them.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs media office said on Thursday, Lutfi discussed with Sarter in the US capital Washington, the importance of expediting the reopening of the US embassy in Tripoli, and the mechanism of activating economic cooperation between the two countries.
The office added that the Undersecretary of Political Affairs in the ministry reviewed with the US advisor the political developments in Libya and the preparations for holding legislative and presidential elections, pointing out the security threats facing Libya from “organized crime and terrorist organizations, most notably IS.”
The US Embassy in Libya is operating from Tunisia, after its closure in July 2014, due to clashes in Tripoli.
