The UN General Assembly has suspended Libya’s right to vote in the U.N. General Assembly for the third time in three years because of the country’s debt.
According to the Washington Post, the Assembly spokesman, Brenden Varma, confirmed on Tuesday Libya lost its right to vote in the world body, which includes 193 members, citing the accumulation of debts, estimated “millions of dollars,” owed to the organization.
According to the Post, The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, stressed Libya’s need to pay about $ 6.6 million to earn the right to vote again, in a letter to the President of the General Assembly.
