The head of the Russian contact group on the intra-Libyan settlement, Lev Dengov announced on Friday the release of Belarusian military expert, Vyacheslav Kachura, who was detained in Libya since 2011.
According to the Russian news agency Novosti, Dengov said their efforts, in a long process of negotiations with the help of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, and in cooperation with the Russian Foreign Ministry and the group of communication for the Libyan settlement, succeeded in the release of former chief of staff of the 334th separate detachment of the USSR GRU special forces, Vyacheslav Kachura.
Kachura, according to his country’s media, is the last Belarusian detained in Libya, on charges of cooperating with Gaddafi’s regime.
In addition, a spokesman for the Department of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus, Vladimir Makarov, denied the participation of any of the military Belarus in the military actions in Libya.
Vyacheslav Kachura entered Libya in June 2011 as part of a group of specialists from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
