Arab League renews support for consensus track in Libya

The Secretary-General of the Arab League envoy to Libya, Salahaddin Al-Jamali affirmed the League’s support for the reconciliation path and the UN envoy to Libya Action Plan, during his meeting with the head of the Presidential Council (PC), Faiz Al-Sarraj, in Tripoli.

Al-Jamali said that the role of the Arab League’s role in Libya is complementary to the one of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), not a competitor

He indicated the League’s willingness to provide all what is required to conduct the electoral processes, according to the PC media office.

Al-Saraj praised the efforts exerted by Al-Jamali, stressing the need for the House of Representatives (HOR) to adopt the referendum law on the constitution and the elections law, so that elections can be held.

Last April, the Arab League announced its support for the Government of National Accord (GNA) as the sole legitimate authority in the country.
