NOC announces reopening of oil wells in Ajkhara

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced on Sunday, the reopening of oilfields in Ajkhara after closing in November 2017.

The NOC said on its official Facebook page, Ajkhara municipality decided to reopen oil wells in the region after pressure from the NOC and the attorney general’s office.

According to the NOC, its chairmen, Mustafa Sanallah considered the re-production a setback to what is known as the parallel institution in Benghazi, which aims to “close the Libyan production in the oases areas”.

Sanallah said the attorney general will continue to investigate this incident, stressing that the closure of installations and oil operations is a serious crime.

The closure by Wintershall, which operates As-Sarah field in the NC-96 concession, resulted in the loss of 4,400,000 barrels of production and the Libyan economy losing approximately $281,479,385,

The production was stopped by Wintershall without the approval of the National Oil Corporation, as stipulated in the interim operating agreement between the parties, according to the National Oil Corporation.
