Ukrainian doctor kidnapped in Libya, released

The Ukrainian embassy in Tunisia announced on Sunday, the release of one of its nationals kidnapped in Libya.

The embassy said in a statement on its official website that the Ukrainian doctor was kidnapped by an armed group in the city of Sabha, where he worked.

According to the statement, the doctor had been released thanks to agreements reached by Ukrainian diplomats during negotiations with local tribal leaders in Sebha.

The Ukrainian embassy demanded its citizens in Libya to leave “immediately” because of the difficulty of settling these type of operations by diplomatic means in the difficult and complex situation in Libya.

The majority of European embassies have warned their citizens not to travel to Libya because of the unstable security situation.
