The National Human Rights Commission in Libya (NCHRL) said that 433 people, 79 children and 10 women, were killed by clashes, bombings and extrajudicial killings across several Libyan cities, in 2017.
In a statement on its official website, the NCHRL said that it recorded the extrajudicial killings of 201 people, which took place in different parts of the country such as Benghazi, Tripoli, Sabha, Al-Khums, Tarhouna, Al-Grabulli, Al-Zawiya, Abayar, Qanfouda, Brega, Hira, Tarhouna and Wershfana .
The NCHRL’s report stated that landmines in Benghazi, Sirte and Derna killed 157 civilians, adding that 143 people were forcibly detained and 186 others were abducted, with 34 cases of unlawful attacks and arrests, torture and threats against journalists, activists and human rights defenders, in the cities of Tripoli, Benghazi and Sebha.
The NCHRL documented 15 cases of assault on health facilities in the towns of Benghazi, Sebha, Al-Zawiya, Tripoli, Wershfana and Derna, which made life of doctors, patients, and the health care system at risk, according to the Commission.
The Commission said 3.5 million, of which 391,000 internally displaced; people need help to improve their living and health conditions.
The United Nations Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has documented the death and injury of at least 365 Libyan in 2017; the result of indiscriminate shooting in residential areas, air strikes and explosive weaponry throughout the country.
