The UN Support Mission in Libya welcomes the announcement by the Presidential Council of the return of the Tawergha refugees in early February, calling for “the translation of promises into action.”

President of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj announced at a press conference Tuesday that the date of the return of the Tawergha to their city will be February 1, 2018, confirming the reconciliation agreement between representatives of Misrata and Tawergha.

This came during a meeting attended by representatives of the Misrata Municipal Council and the local council of Tawergha, members of the follow-up committees between the two cities, the Minister of Local Government Badad Qansu and the Minister of State for Displaced Affairs. The meeting established a mechanism to implement the agreement and establish a committee to follow up on the implementation.

It is noteworthy that the reconciliation agreement reached by the Tawergha and Misrata reconciliation committees, signed on June 19 this year, begins the return of the people of Tawergha to their city, after years of living in camps for the displaced in different parts of Libya, reparation and compensation for those affected in the two cities.
