Italy receives first group of migrants deported from Libya

Italian Interior Minister, Marco Minetti, and the Italian Archbishop received a number of African refugees deported from Libya.

The migrants received were a part of those “entitled to international protection”. The group consisted of 160 refugees from the “most vulnerable” group- being women, children, and the elderly. The migrants were previously held in Libya’s immigration shelters as set by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Aki news agency reported that the Italian Church facilitated the assistance and protection process for these migrants who are faced with “tragic conditions”, alike thousands of immigrants in the shelters in Libya.

It is noteworthy that some European countries have expressed their willingness to receive illegal migrants from Libya.
