116 illegal immigrants saved off the shores of Castelverde

On Wednesday a Libyan coast guard patrol rescued 166 illegal immigrants from different African nationalities off the coast of Castelverde.

According to the media office of the Libyan Navy’s Facebook page, their rescue operation was carried out by their Sabratha boat. The Libyan Navy added that among those rescued were 5 women and 14 children who were sent to the Tripoli naval base and handed over to the illegal immigration control.

The illegal immigration agency housed those rescued at its headquarters; providing first aid and meals to them while working to contact their embassies in order to voluntarily return them to their countries, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration

The Libyan coast guard rescued 209 illegal immigrants from African and Arab nationalities earlier this month.
