The Situation in Libya is the Focus of Discussion Between Tunisia and America

On Friday, the Tunisian Foreign Ministry said that the situation in Libya was the focus of discussion in the meeting between Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui and US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan.

The Tunisian Foreign Ministry said on its official Facebook page that Sullivan had made a presentation on the accomplishment of initiatives in Libya the Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi.

Sullivan pointed out the importance of the consultative meeting of the foreign ministers of Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt on Libya, which was hosted in the Egyptian capital of Cairo last Wednesday. The meeting was held to share the views of bringing the Libyan parties closer together and urging them to have dialogue and negotiation to find a political solution to the crisis in their country.

Sullivan said on Saturday that the political agreement is the only framework for the political process in Libya. He stated, “our message is firm on ending the political agreement in December”.

Sullivan said that the international community is working against all those who are trying to destabilize Libya. He stressed the need to hold accountable those who disrupt the political process, which is being led by the United Nations.

The deputy renewed his country’s stance with the efforts of the United Nations and its envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame. He supported his initiative to resolve the crisis leading to presidential and parliamentary elections.

On the other hand, Al-Sarraj called on the United States to support the state apparatus that fights terrorism with qualitative armament to increase its efficiency and capabilities in tracking down the “remnants of the terrorists.”
