National Commission for Human Rights denies the existence of slave markets in Libya

On Saturday, the National Commission for Human Rights released a statement denying the existence of “slave markets” in Libya, where illegal immigrants are sold.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the committee denounced the CNN report on the existence of “slave markets advertised in the suburbs of Tripoli. They clarified that  the slave trade is confidential and that it consists of individual limited cases.

In its statement, the Committee cautioned against keeping refugees and illegal immigrants in Libya. They demanded that the Attorney General and the Ministries of the Interior and Justice to prosecute “organized criminal gangs” and open an investigation into violations against illegal immigrants in Libya.
