Ibrahim Dabbashi, the recently fired UN ambassador to Libya, is accusing the international community of meddling in Libya’s internal affairs.
Ibrahim Dabbashi raised his concerns with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon saying that Libya was being entrusted to a UN trusteeship headed by a “Troika” the UN’s special envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler.
Dabbashi also blames Libyan officials who he says are making the wrong decisions on behalf of Libyan citizens. In addition, he stated that he was against the formation of a committee made up of Libyans with dual citizenship, who Dabbashi claimed were “radical Islamists” who lost the Libyan elections and “people’s sympathy in Libya”.
He also stated that he was illegally ousted since Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj was not backed by the Libyan parliament in Tobruk.
The UN Secretary General backed Sarraj’s decision which frustrated Dabbashi.
Dabbashi said that many Libyans were “astonished at the careless behaviour of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in violating the terms of the Libyan Political Agreement.” He also said that UNSMIL allowed these alleged violations to continue by allowing the Libyan Presidential Council to higher militias for security.
