Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj has encouraged dialogue between his government’s Presidential Council (PC), the eastern parliament and key military figures to resolve the political tension that has become a source of major tribulation for the North African nation.
“We have deployed several efforts to arrange a meeting together; the presidential council is ready to hold dialogue with the different institutions and political forces,” said Sarraj.
Sarraj said that a meeting with the head of the parliament Aguila Saleh and General Khalifa Haftar falls under the PC’s agenda to unite political views and resolve political issues in Libya.
“We should bolster the political agreement in order to end the sufferings of the Libyan people,” he added.
The Libyan prime minister also emphasized the need to establish a comprehensive strategy to resist the spread of terrorism in Libya.
Sarraj said that he is willing to work with various political forces to ensure stability, security and unity for Libya, highlighting that military institutions need to work the with PC to ensure the elimination of terrorism from Libya, especially now that Libyan forces are in the final stages in the fight against ISIS in Sirte.
The Libyan Prime Minister also mentioned that he awaits the Libyan parliament’s next session where the parliament will vote on whether or not they wish to support the UN-backed Government of National Accord.
