British newspaper “Daily Telegraph” said that British mercenaries were involved in a “failed” operation to support Haftar in Libya, according to a confidential United Nations report.
The newspaper pointed out, on Thursday, that 6 British citizens, including two who were in the Royal Navy commandos, were accused of participating in a “failed” mission to fight with Haftar militias in Libya.
The newspaper added that the five men and one woman, whose names were mentioned in a confidential report prepared by the United Nations Committee of Experts on Libya, the operation ended with their escape by sea in two rubber boats after a dispute with their host in eastern Libya.
The newspaper pointed out that this group traveled with about 20 other mercenaries to Benghazi in June 2019 in a contract coordinated by a UAE-based company called “Opus”.
It is worth noting that the United Nations experts report confirmed, in May, the presence of mercenaries from the Russian “Wagner” group and Syrian fighters who had come from Damascus to support the militias of Haftar.
