#Government #Libya #News – UNESCO calls for a ceasefire of clashes in #Sabratha and the protection of the city’s monuments

On Friday, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, called on all parties in the city of #Sabratha to stop the violence and to protect the cultural heritage of the city.
On its website, UNESCO appealed to all parties involved in the conflict to refrain from the use of “precious” cultural heritage sites for military purposes, and to refrain from targeting them and the areas directly adjacent to them.
The provisions of the 1954 Hague Convention on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict prohibit such acts.
