A military helicopter belonging to forces loyal to General Khalifa Haftar crashed on Monday evening killing six people, said a military source.

Colonel Idris Younes, a senior advisor in the eastern parliament, was one of the six killed in the crash.

It is not yet clear why the helicopter crashed.

The source said two people survived the crash which happened around 65 kilometers from the eastern city of Tobruk.

The elected eastern parliament was forced to move from Tripoli to Tobruk after political and military tension between a rival government further destabilized the country.

The current government in Tripoli represents a coalition of unified political entities and groups who came together to form the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA). The GNA is the only government in Libya that is recognized by the international community and has UN backing.

The parliament in eastern Libya, known as the House of Representatives, has yet to give the GNA a vote of confidence.
