Essebsi: Intervention in Libya will harm Tunisia

(Libyan Press)

During a speech he gave yesterday, the Tunisian President, Beji Caid Essebsi, declared that any military intervention in Libya could harm Tunisia before benefiting any other state.

Essebsi added that anyone who is considering intervention in Libya should consult with Tunisia first and that no state should assume that it has the solution calling on everyone to put their interests aside.

Essebsi expressed his country’s support for the political dialogue sponsored by the United Nations, stressing that it is irreplaceable in the foreseeable future because of the current absence of a unified government in Libya. He also expressed optimism toward the future of Libya as he sees encouraging signs indicating the formation of a unity government.
